Divinities

The most powerful entities in the multiverse of Nasvene are the gods; with few exception the eternal spirits of mortals, protected from the concept of death by the worship of those who live. Instead of their soul pearls melting into the soul sea upon death, these potent few remained in tact and have gone on to twist and shape the fabric of magic; rewriting culture and reality the multiverse over with their presence. Many of these gods manifest their own domains, subsections of reality they are considered to 'live', which they populate with the faithful they feel deserve the honour.

Across Nasvene there are those that worship one god, many gods, or no gods, and even those who pray to the non-divine souls that have passed. These prayers and beliefs shape the world and the deities, just as the deities shape the world itself.

The first mortal to 'ascend' to divinity was Lady Sherry, an ancient Irwinian woman famous among the clans of prehistory for her wisdom, hospitality, and eventually her sheer age. When she passed of old age at some point beyond her 780th year, so widespread was the belief in her immortality that the soul sea itself refused to accept her death. It's unknown how long it took her to learn how to exert influence over the sea directly from this state but she nonetheless became the most potent entity in the world; able to hear the prayers and wishes of those who believed in her and reach into the structure of reality on their behalfs.

A strange pattern has occurred in the rise of the divinities of Nasvene. Long periods without new gods are interspersed by short durations of a set of seemingly unrelated ascensions. Each 'phase' brings the number to a new prime. With the current total at 29, it should be stable, but the fact that the phase contains 6 deities seems to be straining the balance of the soul sea, leaving an immense tension among all faiths and teasing forever the cataclysmic upset and cascade of new gods.

Phase 1

Lady Sherry, Hearthmother, The endless mirror, is the eldest of the gods, both in age and grace. So long has she reigned as a divinity that her facets have grown numerous. Simultaneously the goddess of the passage of time, the patron of gardens and patience, the divine of hospitality, and the chief goddess of the Irwinians. Lady Sherry is an elegant and ancient woman with near endless patience but roots so deep they touch the heart of all realities. Her many divine symbols can be distilled down to representing either an intricate tree, or a mirror. Her sacred animal is the civilized person, and she has no favored weapon.

The ancestors, while not a single divine entity in itself, is a power on the cosmic scale so immense that it factors into all Arithmancy that considers the gods. Also known as The Will, or the Soul Sea, it defines the very concept and functioning of magic. Ones ancestors lead to who you are and eventually you will be a part of them also. If considered a deity, it can be said to manifest as any soul who has passed, and borrow from their knowledge and experience. It is both unbiased in all matters and a strict adherent to tradition. The divine trappings; symbol, weapon, animal, vary from family to family. Its only apparent peer seems to be the Unknown.

Phase 2

Teratias, The Resilient Guardian, The cutting page, the infectious word, is one of the Lastragon deities that is often misrepresented as a Gorun in many parts of the world. His divine symbol is a book unharmed by fire. Teratias holds that knowledge is the most important thing, to the point that many of his followers will claim a willingness to die to protect a book or library. The more extreme faithful of Teratias tend to be underfed and overly focused on their work, typically to their own detriment without the assistance of others. Devotees of the infectious word claim that he can and frequently does reach through them directly when angered. His sacred animal is the owl and his favored weapon is the Lance.

Brigga, Matron of Prosperity and Pesilence, the Silversheen heart, is reverred in many facets and manners, with her two greatest roles being as a goddess of merchants, and the patron of mothers. She teaches her faithful to observe the consequences of ones actions and is most prone of the deities to utilize ironicly excessive punishments. Her symbol is a circular hand mirror. Worshipped by parents, small businesses owners, and those looking to break beyond limitations of the society they find themselves in. Brigga has been accused as the source of several diseases, but her faithful number those most experienced with combating disease and plagues. Her sacred animal is the Crow and her favored weapon is the flaming torch.

Spikianos, The Backbreaker, The Razors edge of rebellion, is the most widespread Lastragon deity. While ostensibly the goddess of command or control over others, her position is clear; if your subjects don't want to be under your command, you don't deserve her help. Worshipped by slave owners, benevolent rulers, guildmasters, and charlatans, but also slaves, the poor, and the subjugated. Spikianos is the goddess of the agreement of authority, and the leader of rebellion. Her holy symbol is a spear rising from battlements, and those overthrown with her assistance are often mounted in such a way. Her favored weapon is the pike and her sacred animal is the bee.

Phase 3

Captain Eoro, The uniter, the annihilator, is considered by many non-Lastragons to be the closest example to a truly evil god. His divine symbol is a Lastragon skull, in whatever shape it is. He is credited as the man who unified the Lastragon tribes and the fact that his initial 'Eorian-Hypax Treaty' continues to prevent war between Lastragon tribes to this day is cited by many outside those tribes as the single most destructive influence any mortal has had on the world. Captain Eoro unifies the lastragon tribes and continues the species' "progress" moving ever forward, empowering their sense of superiority and their intent to quash all under their rule. He is a god of the sea and travel, but is nearly never prayed to by anyone outside the Lastragon tribes. His Favored Weapon is the noose and his sacred animal are the Lastragons themselves.

Rodiroc, Gatepercher, She who swings, is the patron goddess of the Ceratogi. Originally the god of the Ceratogi, Rodiroc's faithful awoke one morning to a vision of their lord stepping through a gateway and emerging a woman. Since, she has become heavily associated with gates and villages atop her existing rather unpredictable nature and obsession with birds and all manner of Ceratogi life. Her divine symbol is a squirrel with wings, with the creature's pose reflecting the aspect of life she is being praised for. She is mother to Enrieth. Her favored weapon is the bow and her sacred animal is the finch.

Phase 4

Linafe, The Ledger of Life, They who vomits beetles, is the deity associated most heavily with the undead and contracts. An irwinian entity that cast aside gender eons ago, Linafe cares only for deals and preaches that the whole of reality is an exchange and promise. They are typically seen as holding sway over Contracts, Insects, Mountains, Revenge, Undead, and Wanderers of all sorts. To some they are the vile god of death and decay, while others hold them close as the point on which life is justified and all is validated. Their main holy symbol is a pair of crossed quills and the count all beetles among their sacred animals.

Vrim I Mass, The mycelium drake, They who bear the collapse, is the patron deity of the Rjkari. While Vrim I Mass is called a woman by many venerators and non-Rjkari, the clergy and dedicated worshipers always refer to them in a neutral manner. Vrim I Mass is believed by many to be the progenitor of the entire Rjkari species. Their focus is primarily on the Rjkari people and the act of mining, teaching that the caverns and warrens can provide richer but more dangerous rewards than any other form of mining. Their divine symbol is a ridge or mound of stones and their sacred animal is the Rustie.

Leoran Asta, he who dances in the rain, he with dirt under the nails, is the Ceratogi god of the rain and hard work. His divine symbol is a bowl overflowing with water. He encourages his followers to craft experiences, prepare moments, and take advantage of every minute of the day. His faithful claim his voice is the song that carries through the rain behind thunder. Some believe him to be the lord of lies and master of corruption, as rumours abound that none leave his worship aside through death. His favored weapon is the Scythe and his sacred animal is the goat.

Zareth, The Eternal man, He who dwells on the magma throne, is the godking of the Zarethian empire. His only divine symbol is a human hand with melting wrist, adorned with rings. Zareth is one of the few gods with a constant physical form, and rules his nation from the city of trecero which doubles as his divine realm. His main interests are Fire, Order, and Trade, though many who disagree with his interests or actions ascribe him the spheres of Malice and Nobility. His favored weapon is the halberd and his most famous divine servant is the mountain sized kraken magma elemental that dwells in the passages between Nasvene and Trecero.

Phase 5

Brintuz, the cutting wave, the harbour lantern, is the rjkari god of harbours and shipping lanes. His divine symbol is a ship's wheel intertwined with a pair of crossed monk's staves. Worshiped primarily by dock workers, sailors, and ascetics, Brintuz's focus on what is achievable and how to work with the natural world for ease and safety of oneself and those around them, attract many other people to his faith. His favored weapon is the staff, and his sacred animal is the Crab.

Nylaz, The wanderer's compass, She who cross-stitches flesh, is the stern but inquisitive human goddess most commonly associated with travel and medicine. Her divine symbol always includes a needle and thread, with the most common being a compass rose with needle as compass and the thread wrapped around as the circumference. Among the most common deities to call or 'summon' faithful to her worship, rather than await their approach. She is a goddess of Exploration, Healing, and the law, finding much common ground and apparent friendship with Linafe. Her sacred animal is the hare.

Phase 6

Chaful Bayu, He who skirts the breeze, The spiralling serve, is the Ceratogi god of athletes and the sky. His divine symbols usually involve iconography of a sport accompanied by waving lines reminiscent of the wind. Chaful is worshipped by athletes and those who would cross planar bounds as well as by those who construct Dawnism wands for others. A god of the wind, weather, sports, wine, and dawnism, Chaful's faithful are as diverse as his interests. His favored weapons are both wands and pocket knives, though he is one of the few gods to not have an explicit sacred animal.

Dotari, The Beating Mother, She who pulls the streets, is less common outside Lastragon cities than some other Lastragon deities. Her divine symbol is an abstracted map of city streets, which may be why such maps are avoided in some nations. Dotari's name has become the inspiration for the word for tyranny in many languages as she guides city officials in ruling with an iron fist. The times she is worshiped outside Lastragon cities is usually under her epithet "The Judges Fist" as her imposing and powerful nature is used to protect witnesses and victims; with her symbol laid behind or beneath the speaker as a threat to all who would silence them. In all, her divine interests include Brawling, cities, honesty, murder, and tyranny. Her favored weapon is her own fist and her sacred animal is Orca.

Undac, Keeper of the wild, Undacaranosh, is seen by many as a god of balance, of nature's answer to civilization. Depicted as often as a bear or swarm of vermin as as a gorun; Undac's divine symbol is a prey animal(such as a rabbit) with pointed teeth, or a predator with antlers. Seen by many as an enforcer of hierarchy's and 'the natural order', he is worshiped frequently by hunters, teachers, and tyrants alike in his many facets. His favored weapon is the Gorun Warbow, and his sacred animal is the Elk.

Enrieth, Lightweaver, He who burns his heart, is the ceratogi god of the interplay of light and shadow. His divine symbol is a grid with several broken lines. Patron of puppet theatres and ninja alike, Enrieth's faithful look at the world as the interaction between light and dark and most speak of creation and artistry in terms of weaving as if reality was a fabric or tapestry composed of light itself. The only god known to have survived death through his own will rather than that of anyone else, Enrieth's faith spread rapidly since his ascension. His sacred animal is the firefly and his favored weapon is the net.

Phase 7

Rohkirrin; Thief of the ages, Father of the braids, Master of ceremonies, is the patron of the Avianosi people and heavily associated with thieves. His chief divine symbol is a feather with nine points along its edge. Rohkirrin is venerated most extensively as the master of celebrations and events, with a shrine at almost every gathering and meeting that is at the very least given a cursory prayer before the doors are opened. He is however overall a god of Celebrations, the future, magic, and thievery. His epithets include Rhkkrn and Rohka of the pages among several others. His favored weapon is the dagger and is known to be the only god who's faithful willingly consume his sacred animal; the rat.

Kralvag, Sister of the March, The everful bog, is not the evil being many assume her to be. Her divine symbol is a shovel half submerged in water. She is the Gorun goddess of what no-one else wants to do. The goddess of gunk, grime, death, decay, and exertion; Kralvag is prayed to by the hunter in the swamp, the dungshoveler, the gravedigger. Some do associate her with evil acts such as massacres and various forms of defiling, though it is clear she does not make such acts of 'service' easy. Kralvag is known to show her favour to the faithful with unexpected shade or cool winds during hard work. Her favored weapon is the shovel and her sacred animal is the fly.

Phase 8

Sinyar, The rivers bounty, the reaper of works, is associated most with the rewards of one's labours. Her divine symbol is a fish hanging from an amulet and she is typically worshiped in farms and freshwater fisheries. Her concept of sacred ground is the most fluid of any god, holding that the most sacred ground is whatever ground you work yourself. She is also associated with Uolune and gemstone magic, with many of her faith seeing the act of creating their own uolune jewelry being a magical form of worship as the effects of the stone are the results of their labour from the discovery of the stone to completion. Her favored weapon is the Sickle and her sacred animal is the cricket.

Nalyth, Shatterer of Sieges, Breath of the heavens, is an Irwinian Hearth goddess. Her portfolio is most commonly summarized as Castles, Cold, Navigation, and the Stars. However her many epithets also associate her with Artists, Investigators, and even Piracy. Her divine symbol is as varied as her epithets but is always depicted on a flag, banner, or cloak. Nalyth is prone to powerfully destructive outbursts, and her whims can either raise or raze a castle in seconds. Her favored weapons are Hammers and Spears, and her sacred animal is the boar.

Kutari, Mistress of the mind, She with no sleeves, is the goddess most heavily associated with gambling, risk taking, and the manipulation of other people. Her divine symbol is a set of three playing cards, two hidden and one displaying a queen of hearts. Sometimes called the goddess of lies, Kutari holds the distinction among Avianosi deities as the first to be widely worshiped in full understanding of her species of origin. She teaches that everyone's actions are predictable and extend from who they are and where they were raised; that if you understand someone enough, they are simply a piece on the board to play. Her most fervent faithful claim her insight into the mind helps calm fears, push past pain, and can fix sweeping issues, if only people are willing to listen and think. Her favored weapon is her words and her sacred animal is the wasp. She is married to Muninn.

Legred, the storm at the crossroads, he who is tied to the mast, is the Gorun god of clouds, travel, and insanity. His divine symbol is typically a cloud above a forked path, though his role as a god of fertility in some areas has resulted in a divine symbol consisting primarily of phallic imagery. Worshipped by farmers praying for good rain and bountiful yields, as well as travellers following familiar but dangerous routes. He is the god prayed to in hopes that a thing done time and again does not change its outcome, or risks so far avoided remain abated. His favored weapon is the Sickle and his sacred animal is the seagull.

Phase 9

Alivane Terma; Hunter of the storm, lady of the iron waves, Shadow in the depths, is the patron of fishermen and naval warriors. Her chief divine symbol is a fishing rod laid across the back of a herron. Lady Terma is revered by those who make their living off lives lost at sea, be it their own or the animals they need to eat. Her chief interests lay in Fishermen, Light, Rangers, Study, and Valor. However she does bear the epithets Terma Oligarsis and Lady of ripples, among many others. Her favored weapon is the Harpoon and her most famous servant is a gigantic swordfish made of the night's sky.

Muninn, Brother of Warriors, The Father in Wartime, is the second most venerated Avianosi god despite how recently he ascended. His holy symbol is a bird sitting on a sword that is resting on a helmet. A war god with no interest in battle, Muninn watches over warriors and their families, helping those struggling with the morality of their actions particularly under orders. He is a common physical sight in large battlefields and is present in almost every attack on a city since his ascension. A god that sits with those scarred inside and out by war, many believe he himself does not want the divinity he holds. His favored weapon is the spiked chain, and his favored animals are all carrion feeders. He is married to Kutari.

Pelestra, the Laughing doorway, the veil between dream and death, is the Gorun goddess of transitions and reinterpretation. Her divine symbol is an open door. Playful and ever interested in the way the world changes, Pelestra spends so much of her time in the domains of other gods that it is unclear if she has her own. Her faithful see dreams as a window into death, and humour as the veil of pain. Her favored weapon is the hatchet and her sacred animal is the sloth.

Bellor, The grinning computer, Bellga Einodian Tamer, is the human god of Arithmancy and Craftsmen. His holy symbol is a hammer with the shadow of a sword. At times cold and calculating, at other times among the friendliest and most conversational of the gods. Bellor's symbol is often adorned on clothing and vessels passing close to the Einodian Archipelago. Worshiped by all manner of craftsmen for precision and accuracy, but also by explorers and hunters for protection and vigilance in the wild, he is a diverse and approachable figure. His favored weapon is the bladed war hammer and his sacred animal is the Cogriga.

Rangai Reb, the Mycomancer, The network, is a Rjkari deity associated most with money and the forest. Recognised commonly as male, his divine symbol is a veined coin. So widespread is his authoritative and masculine influence that in many places he is considered a god of fatherhood, though as a Rjkari, Rangai Reb lacks an actual gender and simply identifies as male. Representing to many the order in the complexity of the forest, and the symbolism of wealth in natural exchange of life and death, he is most commonly worshiped by hunters, farmers, and carpenters; those who extract a livlihood from the woods and the natural processes of the forest. His sacred animal is the boar and his favored weapon is the machete.

The Unknown; An error of theological discussions. No-one worships them, they have no known name, species, or portfolio. There have been many small cults of personality which claim their focal being is this entity, but in every case the figure has proven not to hold the powers of a god. The unknown entity is at least as powerful as any other god, and according to some Analysts may be as powerful as the Ancestors themselves. However, calculations about the figure are never consistent, as if the rules of magic break down in their study. The gods Lady Sherry, Dotari, Bellor, Rohkirrin, and Vrim I Mass claim to know the identity and nature of this entity, though they refuse to elaborate further.
