Uolune

One of the "Kepera" category of magics;

The art of encouraging gemstones to create magical effects 'directly'. Through their beauty and rarity, gemstones have generated an expectation in social creatures. An expectation of power and use. This expectation manifested in the soul sea, causing gemstones to be granted small soul grains just as any living thing. The act of interacting with a stone, grants it the slivers of experience to increase its pearl; and practitioners of Uolune can gently shape this soul pearl itself to create little effects should the soul sea flow across it.

A practitioner of Uolune is typically called a "Jeweler"

Some more experienced or high publicity practitioners are instead called "Peresta"s

Mechanics

Each type of gemstone and gemstone effect has a list of keywords. Each individual gemstone also has a willpower value. Desired effects give the gemstone a tool die depending on how difficult it is. The stone also gains an Aid die based on how well its personality works with the effect. This aid die starts at d10 and decreases one stepma for each keyword the gemstone and effect share. If your Uolune check exceeds the stones Willpower check, the effect is created.

In addition to being created directly by gemstones, some effects can be distilled into Elixirs. A single check to create an uolune elixir takes five times as long as normal and results in 2 litres of the applicable elixir. How much elixir is required for the effect is included in the elixir tag

Flavour

Rolled For

You can use Uolune to attempt to disarm, calm, or diffuse uolune hazards. An uolune hazard is a form of magical trap.

Special Rules

Gemstones that generate abilities for a single creature may get jealous if they are not the only uolune effect a person is benefitting from. Some personalities are more prone to jealousy than others. The more Uolune effects are in place, the more likely each will become jealous. A jealous stone can choose to inflict the penalty of its magic instead of working as normal.

Gemstone effects that target a single creature cannot be transfered to another creature by simply passing the item to them.

In addition to traditional jewelery, uolune gemstones can be incorporated into decorations on weapons, armour, or shields.

You cannot benefit from more than 4 Uolune effects at once.

Gemstone matrixes count as multiple gemstones for the purpose of the potency of their effects. However gemstone matrixes often have greater willpower scores and can benefit from its aid die twice; one as a tool die and one as an aid die.
